Maxine’s Life Story

Maxine worked for various nursing homes in New Jersey; to include, Head Start for 12 years, as a Health Worker. She later was promoted to the position of Supervisor at HeadStart. To secure her position as a supervisor, Maxine had to complete some academic course work at Camden County College for 2 years, while working at HeadStart. She later held a position as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Edgewood Hospital. Maxine went on to pursue her career as a CNA for long-term Care at the Lakeland Hospital in Blackwood, NJ. While employed at Lakeland, Maxine was voted in as a secretary of the Union’s Council. She was later voted in local 2307, as the Vice President, where she remained in that position until she retired as a CNA from Lakeland Hospital, at the age of 62.

Maxine loved the sport of football. She loved it so much that she joined a football team named “The Overbrook Mother’s”, where she played the positions of Nose tackle and Line woman for 3 years. She also was the captain of her team.

Maxine always supported her son’s football games by being present at every single game. She was also a great support of her grandson’s football games too. She was one of their biggest cheerleaders out on the field. You always knew that Maxine was present in the football stands. She used her boisterous voice to cheer them on. The football coaches also knew when Maxine was present too as she would help assist them in their coaching ability from the “football stands” and she would let them know when they were not coaching according to her standards.

Maxine met and married Roosevelt Scott. To this union, were born four sons and two daughters: Eugene, Anthony, Stephen, Darryl, Carmen, and Nicole. Maxine’s son, Stephen Cornelius Scott preceded her in eternal life.

Maxine was raised in Green Grove Baptist Church under the late, Reverend, W. L. Turner. She also remained a faithful member over the years with the present pastor of Green Grove Baptist Church, Reverend, George E. Holland
Sr. Maxine professed Jesus Christ as her Savior and supported the mission of the church as a member. Over her many years of membership at Green Grove Baptist Church, Maxine served in different capacities of ministry as a
missionary, on the scholarship committee, and a member of the church choir. Maxine remained faithful until she could no longer serve.

Maxine was a member of the Ladies Axillary Post, 357, where she also had a drill squad, that once competed and won first place, winning $500.

Maxine was also the originator of a women’s baseball team in Lindenwold, NJ, where they would compete with various teams in NJ.
