Please share a memory of Annie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Annie Louise Greene, a devoted Christian mother whose life was marked by service and a deep commitment to her family, church, and community, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

She was born on July 22, 1932, in Scranton, North Carolina, to the late Harold Ross and Mildred Moore Ross. Annie was educated in the Hyde County school system. As the oldest child, she left school before graduating to help support her family. She worked for several years in the dining facilities at the Kinston Country Club before later joining Saga Food Services Cafeteria, which operated inside the E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company plant in Kinston, North Carolina. The Forney family was instrumental in helping Annie secure employment at the plant during a time when it was especially difficult for people of color to obtain substantial employment.

Annie was married to the late Roy L. Greene. They resided in Kinston, North Carolina, where they worked, traveled, and spent a great deal of time with family and friends.

Annie eventually moved to New Jersey to be closer to her children. There, she became the manager and owner of Annie’s on the Green, located at Freeway Golf Course in Sicklerville, New Jersey, which she successfully operated for 17 years. She became well known for her cooking, with people traveling from near and far to enjoy her fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, and sweet potato pies.

She proudly served as the North Carolina Eastern Conference President of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), demonstrating her leadership and commitment to empowering women in business.

She became a member of Zeta Amicae in Kinston, North Carolina, in 1963. In 1997, she transferred her membership to Zeta Amicae of Gloucester County, New Jersey, where she faithfully served as Chaplain and coordinated the Stork’s Nest and Corbett House initiatives. Annie was also an active member and financial secretary of the Williamstown Civic Group, and a member of the former ABLE organization.

A faithful servant of God, Annie was an active member of Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Missionary and head of the Golden Age Ministry. She also worked faithfully on the Kitchen Committee, Pastor’s Aide Ministry, and Greeters Ministry.

Annie was a barrier-breaking entrepreneur, a devoted matriarch, and a spiritual anchor for her family. She nourished souls both literally and figuratively across generations. She ran her race and kept the faith, serving others with grace, humility, and an unwavering spirit. She also lovingly embraced many foster children within her church and community. Affectionately known as Sister Greene, Miss Annie, and Mom Greene, she was deeply loved by many.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Hattie Beckham (the late Calvin), Johnny Ross, Vivian Boone (Jeffrey), Quinton Greene (Priscilla), and Tanyar Greene. She was preceded in death by her oldest granddaughter, Nylena Johnson. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Christopher Beckham (Janean), Christopher Boone (Emily), Donathan Foreman, Amanda Williams (Stanley), Jeremy Boone, and Jonnetta Wilborn; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings: Arlease, Addie, Clara, Mary, Eugene, and James. She was preceded in death by her siblings Alice, Betty, and George.

Annie will be sorely missed by her nieces, nephews, a host of close friends, extended family, and a community that was truly blessed to have her in their lives.
